The Center for Proton Therapy at PSI has developed the world's leading method for proton therapy and uses it clinically. Tumors inside the body are irradiated in a targeted manner and with the highest precision, while the surrounding healthy tissue is optimally protected. Children and adolescents in particular benefit from this type of treatment. The LBS is supporting a research project entitled "Daily Adaptive Proton Therapy for Pediatric patients".

AICIA is a non-profit Research Association affiliated with the Engineer School of the University of Seville (E.T.S.I.). LBS supports a research project of the E.T.S.I. entitled "Application of High-lntensity Focused Ultrasound Techniques in Recovery after Biostasis”.

The European Biostasis Foundation (EBF) a Switzerland based foundation dedicated to basic and applied research in the areas of biostasis, cryobiology and biopreservation. The Foundation is focused on state-of-the-art technology and medical practice. Its work is based on a shared mission of preserving life. Its primary goal is to advance research, protecting humans from harm and degradation. With its research facility close to Zurich, the EBF funds, conducts and coordinates research projects in Switzerland, Europe and globally.

Pro Natura is the oldest nature conservation organization in Switzerland. In the beginning, the focus was on the creation of Switzerland's first national park. Over the decades, additional nature conservation issues have become important. The LBS is supporting Pro Natura in the purchase of a total of three areas of forest and pasture (Raveires, Sous le Roc, Peril-louda forêt and Perillouda pâturage), which complements the ecological value of the existing dry pastures in the valley and the planned cantonal forest reserve.

An unprecedented environmental disaster has been averted in the Red Sea under the leadership of the United Nations. In August 2023, a highly dangerous operation succeeded in pumping out the entire cargo of more than one million barrels of oil from the wrecked tanker "FSO Safer".

The NTFP Foundation is dedicated to reach out to the local people and engage them on a sustainable base to improve their environment for a better living in harmony with nature. LBS has supported the NTFP Foundation's "Beekeeping" project, in which a sustainable, low-tech source of income is being created for the inhabitants of the Amazon. This enables them to earn a basic income and at the same time contribute to the protection of the Amazon rainforest and local biodiversity.

Early climate records from instrumental observations are key for understanding climate change at the global, regional, and local scales. LBS supports a project of University Berne which aims to preserve such early climate records from southern South America before they will be lost forever, and to make them available for research and to the public.
